Located in Cherokee country, where the Cherokee and Creek Indians fought over the territory (and supposedly determined by a stickball game), Ball Ground did not come into existence as a town until the railroad passed through it in 1882. Fifty years later, it was considered on of the best business points on the railroad. Agricultural, ginning, saw-milling, wood-working and the marble-working industry were the forms of commerce to help this city grow.
